About Mariam

UPLIFTING AND EMPOWERING WOMEN; ONE WORD AT A TIME.

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada to a Muslim-convert mother and Egyptian-Muslim father, I have been exposed to the resilience, representation and excellence of Muslim women. I grew up being inspired by my mom, aunts, cousins and family friends who were steadfast in their faith while having incredible career and personal goals.

I embarked on my journey with hijab in Ramadan 2013 — something I had wanted to do since I was 13.

I currently work full-time at a local newspaper as a journalist and love creating content as a creative outlet. Writing and community building have always been something I am keen in and my blog is extension of that passion.

I am the proud mom of two boys, big sister to two younger brothers and wife to my husband of four years, Omar.

With my platform, I hope to inspire women, particularly modest, plus-size dressers, moms and working women to live their lives authentically. I have a unique position as a 27-year-old mom, visible Muslim and plus-sized woman in the media industry that I hope to help others with.
